NINE OF WANDS REVERSED – Tarot
THE KEY + THE CHILD + THE MICE – Lenormand

The Nine of Wands reversed often represents someone who is holding on to ideas or premises long after they no longer apply to a situation, a soldier on his battlements who refuses to believe that the war is over, for example, or someone who fears change.

The Lenormand clarifier cards are telling us that the new and innovative solutions (Key + Child) that we are adopting to manage during the epidemic – Zoom conferencing, for example – are a source of anxiety for some of us (The Mice).

Already the level of anxiety that many of us are feeling is heightened. We are shut-in, and the world outside our homes poses life-threatening, invisible dangers. Our routines have needed to completely change. We are dependent upon skills that might not come quickly to us (especially those of us who are older). Through the years, I’ve seen people struggle with social media, using email, and learning how to work with online platforms. When I think about how trapped they must feel, today, by their fears of technology, my heart goes out to them.

I think this message has two parts. The first is to have some empathy for the level of discomfort those not born to smartphones, computers, and social media are experiencing.

The second message is to those of us who might be paralyzed by our conviction that we can’t figure out Zoom or Skype or Facetime. Spirit is confident that we can do this. Think of all the other challenges we have overcome in our lifetimes. We are only as limited as we believe we are.

Today is a good day to try. There is no penalty if we can’t figure it out right away, no rush. If we get stuck, make sure to breathe, remain calm, get a cup of tea or wine, and relax into the task. Treat it like a fun puzzle. If we can, have a friend or family member talk us through it over the phone.

THE GARDEN + THE WHIP/BROOM + THE FOX – Lenormand

The Fox: one’s work, and also cunning.
The Whip/Broom: clearing away, sweeping out.
The Garden: gathering places

As public gathering places are being swept clean, emptied by the measures to contain the spread of COVID19, jobs are being affected. Many of us either are not able to work, or our customers are unable to work. It is going to take strategy and cunning to figure out how to keep our households financially stable.

Pentacles are the suit of earth and symbolize coins, hearth, and home.
Today we are being asked to put on our crowns, and manage our kingdoms, to prepare for the upcoming weeks and months.
Spirit advises us to get an accurate look at our expenses and to come up with a budget, a strategy. What bills might we be able to defer? Are there loans or unemployment benefits available? What can we cut out of our expenses? What other options for income do we have?

We can empower ourselves and remove some of our future anxiety by figuring out a plan today.

FOUR OF SWORDS REVERSED – Tarot
THE BOOK + THE STARS + THE BOUQUET – Lenormand

Swords are the suit of air, representing communication, intellect, learned prejudices, and beliefs. The FOUR OF SWORDS reversed could be referring to a forced rest or inaction, one where we are asked to ponder our unique viewpoints.

THE BOOK Lenormand can represent learning, knowledge, THE STARS Lenormand, hopes and wishes, and THE BOUQUET gifts and beauty.

Our message today is to take advantage of this forced inaction, the mandated suspension of our daily routines that sheltering-in-place has imposed. This time, pruned of the clutter of external expectations, might be the perfect opportunity to really sink into our values, what we believe, what our truths are. We could look at this moment as a gift, allowing us to really assess what we value, what our genuine hopes and aspirations are, and giving us the headspace to really focus on those. When the external world is falling apart around us, what becomes truly important?

Visualization is an essential part of manifestation. These days of self-discovery will assist us in recognizing and achieving what our soul holds dear.

Today, I called out to ALL of our spirit guides, ancestors, and guardian angels, and the messages coming in were so individual that I ended up pulling three sets of cards. Maybe one of them will resonate with you.

First Draw:
Message to the World
April 1st, 2020
THE PAGE OF WANDS – Tarot
The Clover + The Home + The Lady – Lenormand clarifiers

MESSAGE 1:
In this draw, I am interpreting THE LADY as representing something domestic. (It can also be our feminine side, ourselves if we identify as female or a significant woman in our lives). The Clover stands for good fortune, luck, and The House for our household and homes.

This first message shouts out to all of us who are starting to feel like being shut in is a stroke of good fortune. Our forced inaction is allowing us to rekindle domestic interests, or igniting new ideas for home-based projects. Spirit today encourages us in these pursuits, whatever they might be. It could be doing things together with our families, exploring new domestic talents like cooking, sewing, redecorating, or maybe launching podcasts and live streaming videos from our homes on topics that interest us. Good for us!

The Whip + The Ring + The Heart – Lenormand clarifiers

MESSAGE 2:
In this draw, I am interpreting The Whip Lenormand as representing “beating ourselves up about something,” The Ring as promises, and the Heart is our loved ones or something that we love to do.

The second message is to STOP beating ourselves up if today’s events are keeping us from fulfilling promises that we’ve made to loved ones, or to ourselves about interests that are dear to us.

We know best how to push our own buttons, and when we don’t fulfill promises that might be sacred to us or measure up to personal ideals, we come down harder on ourselves than others might. Especially when we are isolated, or scared, or feel powerless, it’s easy to self-sabotage.

Maybe we are unable to visit elderly family members who are in assisted living facilities despite vowing long ago that we would always be there for them. Perhaps we can’t take our children on the vacation that we promised them, or, even, had to cancel our wedding.

All fitness classes and facilities are closed, and maybe we just don’t have the space to continue at home, despite our best intentions.

Whatever it might be, this message is to forgive ourselves for these circumstances that are beyond our control. Stop wasting energy self-flagellating for things we can’t do anything about, and turn our focus on what we can do, instead.

MESSAGE 3
In the Nine of Cups, I always see all of those chalices up on the pedestal behind the figure as representing the man’s loved ones and emotional connections. He sits proudly in front of the display, saying, “These are my riches.” You will notice, too, that he is keeping an acceptable social distance from them. His arms are crossed in front of him. He is not touching, hugging, or breathing on them.

The Bear can represent protection. The House Lenormand, our household, our close friends and family. The Dog Lenormand, trustworthiness, loyalty.

This third message is to keep up the excellent work! Our shelter-in-place is helping to protect the people that we hold dear.

ACE OF PENTACLES REVERSED – Tarot
THE MOUNTAIN + THE BIRDS + THE BOOK + THE SHIP – Lenormand

For all of us who are attempting to learn from home or explore new career paths and means of income (Ace of Pentacles), today’s message acknowledges that having a world-wide shelter-in-place order is posing some obstacles and delays.

Specifically, the challenges (the Mountain) have to do with the ability to meet or connect with people, perhaps issues with our phone service and internet being SOOOO slow with everyone online. (The Birds: small gatherings, conversations, chatter.)

However, the outcome is The Book, which stands for learning, education, and knowledge. So breathe and be patient. It will all work out. These times will lead to new innovative workarounds, and despite the challenges and delays, Spirit encourages us to stick with it.

I randomly drew the first set of cards without shuffling first and then thought I’d better try again, and shuffle them before pulling from the decks. So I have two messages for us today.

1st Draw:
KNIGHT OF SWORDS – Tarot
THE SUN + THE SERPENT + THE CROSSROADS + THE SHIP – Lenormand

The Knight of Swords is urging us (from the safety of our self-isolation) to rush the word out. Shout out our truth to the world. What truth? The Lenormand cards are specific. Spread the information that the Sun (coming to light, revealing) has exposed about The Serpent (the poison, the lies).

As the aggressive spread and fatality rates of COVID19 increase, it is so crucial to get the facts out to our communities so that they are armed with accurate information when faced with decisions (The Crossroads) about leaving their homes and/or traveling (The Ship).

 

2nd Draw:
ACE OF WANDS – Tarot
THE MICE + THE HEART + THE FISH – Lenormand

In the second message, I see that we are anxious (The Mice) about the finances (The Fish) of our loved ones (The Heart), or about money in general. The Ace of Wands is encouraging us to come up with new solutions, pursue new ideas on how to generate streams of income that are rooted in activities that we love, in our passions.

This message could also be encouraging us to brainstorm new and innovative ways to supplement the incomes of those that we hold dear.

KING OF CUPS REVERSED – Tarot
1st Draw: THE LILIES + THE HOUSE + THE SERPENT – Lenormand
2nd Draw: THE TREE + THE CROSS + THE BIRDS – Lenormand

The King of Cups reversed illustrates that this forced confinement inside our homes, deluged with disturbing news from the world, threatens our equilibrium. Emotions are running high, and risk capsizing us.

I drew the Lenormand clarifier cards twice because the first draw was not clear to me. Lilies Lenormand can represent the elderly or mature people in our lives. It also illustrates purity, calm, retirement, relaxation. The Lilies + The House + The Snake combination could indicate that we have a choice in our actions and reactions between purity and calmness, and lashing out at people poisonously. It could also mean that the elderly people in our homes are threatened by an outside poison or deceit.

The second time I drew the clarifiers, I pulled The Tree (health), The Cross (heartache), The Birds (siblings, flock, chatter). These three cards emphasize that heartache and trepidation about the health of ourselves and our loved ones, and the constant gossip or chatter about health, are also destabilizing our emotions.

Our message from Spirit today is to work to maintain emotional balance. If we have to tune out the world around us to do so, so be it. If we are in close and constant proximity to our housemates, we can try finding a separate nook, putting on headphones or earplugs, and immersing ourselves in our favorite music, in drawing or crafting, in a good novel, in meditation. Anything to give our hearts a respite from the outside chatter. If we are isolating alone, we can turn off our social media and our phones for a couple of hours, and do something for ourselves that requires our complete focus. Turning our attention from the external noise and worry to something creative or nourishing, will ease our hearts.

SIX OF PENTACLES – Tarot
THE RING + THE GARDEN + THE SHIP – Lenormand

The message of the Six of Pentacles in today’s reading is very literal. Give what we can to those in need.

However, the clarifying Lenormand cards are very specific today as well.

The Ring stands for cycles and promises. The Ship can symbolize travel from overseas. Our countries have a tradition of people crossing our borders for the promise of a better life, of a Garden of Eden. In today’s world, these immigrant communities may be undocumented or hidden mainly from the mainstream community. They work in the hotel industries, landscaping, housekeeping, in restaurants, in the building trades, in grocery stores. They may even be coworkers or members of our church or PTO.

As our governments struggle to find ways to give help to the legal citizens of our countries, these families that live and work alongside us, mostly hidden, are left vulnerable. In the USA, many may be scared to ask for medical or financial help for fear of deportation.

We are in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, and Spirit is asking us to let go of political divides, and to do what we can to help everyone in our villages, especially those that are undocumented and have no other recourse.

We can reach out to any nonprofits that specifically help this vulnerable population, or to their places of worship, and find out how we can safely give assistance, no matter how modest.

SIX OF CUPS – Tarot
THE COFFIN+ THE HEART + THE WHIP – Lenormand

The Coffin: death/transition/endings
The Heart: people, passions, what we love
The Whip: debate, arguments, sweeping out, repetitive and vigorous activities

Cups are the suit of water and represent emotions, intuition, empathy. The Six of Cups is often seen as symbolizing our childhood memories and nostalgia.

To me, the Six of Cups also represents the joy of sharing beauty, miracles, nature. Two children, dressed for cold weather, are surrounded by cups of blooming, fragrant flowers – blossoming despite the season. The girl has joyfully passed her cup to a taller youth who is inhaling the fragrance before handing it back. It is about giving, sharing an experience, without any expectation of monetary rewards.

Today’s message, I feel, addresses both of these meanings. In the background of government debates about how to curtail, or whether to restrict this pandemic, we are going to start seeing people that we love fall ill, and even die. Those individuals who are the cornerstones of our childhood memories may be the most vulnerable to this virus.

The Whip illustrates both the arguments that are happening around actions to take and the vigilance that we need to adopt and practice consistently, to protect ourselves and our community.

The Six of Cups references our childhood but also asks us to share miracles and moments of beauty today, and in the days to come. Give gestures and words of kindness, encourage, and share what uplifts you. Give without asking for anything in return.

Today, we need to counter-balance negativity through positive intentions. Also, reach out to those individuals from your childhood who give structure to your memories. Let them know that you are thinking of them and reminisce with them about those moments that make you nostalgic. Who knows, a heartfelt connection might boost their immune system.

KING OF CUPS – Tarot
THE CLOUDS + THE STORK + THE SUN – Lenormand

The King of Cups suggests a need to moderate our emotions. Try not to let our feelings and anxieties drown us. Let our feelings supplement our actions, not decide them.

The Lenormand clarification cards are reassuring us that although today this change that we are all going through is clouded, unknown, in the end, the sun will breakthrough. The Stork is moving from clouds to sun, from confusion to clarity. The Sun Lenormand card is generally positive and represents a successful conclusion.

Our message today is to not let our emotions capsize us. Today is full of uncertainty; however, soon, we will see our path clearly. We are going through a transition, but all the while, moving from uncertainly towards clarity. These cards are telling us to hang in there and don’t fall apart. We will get through the obstacles that we face.
